In class we have been working on poems about the issue of bullying. We have been working really hard on making them send a powerful message. This was important to us because bullying is a big problem and a lot of terrible things have happened because of this issue. If you have ever been bullied or seen someone get bullied then you know that it is hard to stop and a lot of times kids don’t speak up about the problem because they are scared that the bully will hurt them even more if they tell someone.
Our poems our based on the “I am just a boy” poem that a fourteen year old wrote a few years ago. Our class hopes that writing these poems can help kids who are being bullied by making them want to share their stories too. Part of doing this was to celebrate pink shirt day which is on the 29th on February. If you want to learn more about this day here is the link to my post about pink shirt day. I have never been bullied before so I didn’t have any experiences to share in my poem. I did have ideas of how victims of bullying could feel so I decided to share those instead. So here is my poem. I hope you enjoy it and maybe it will encourage you to share your story and how you feel about bullying.
I am just a girl
I am just a girl who deserves to feel like I belong
I am just a girl who hopes to be accepted for who I am and not for who you want me to be
I am just a girl who doesn’t want to be left out and alone
I am just a girl who isn’t going to act like someone I’m not just to be apart of a group
I am just a girl who hopes for bullying to end so more people don’t get hurt.
I am just a girl who isn’t going to stand by and watch the problem get bigger instead of making a change.
I am just a girl who has the right to be different
I am just a girl who didn’t realize how bad bullying could get, but now I’m understanding the impacts of it.
I am just a girl who doesn’t deserve to be hated or to be judged
I am just a girl who wants to be happy
I am just a girl.
If you have ever seen someone get bullied, you should stand up to the bully and speak up! Don’t be a bystander. I hope my poem made you want to make your own so you can share your story.
